Full Version: Did Utah Lake freeze over????

From up on the hill by UVSC, it sure looks like at least the north end of Utah Lake is frozen, and possibly the south end too. I'm not for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised with all this freezing weather we've been having lately. It hasn't been above freezing since Saturday or Sunday.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone had firsthand knowledge going out there and checking it or anything.

Thanks TD, wish I had time to go out there and check myself.

Sure looked like it to me, when I drove home from S.L.C. today. I didn't bother to drive over and check, but I had the impression that it had frozen too. Not sure that means it's thick enough to walk on though.

Hey Mike,

It's pretty much frozen all over now but the ice isn't thick enough. I drove by along the shoreline from bubble up all the way to saratoga this morning and it is frozen with a few open water in some areas which I suspect are springs. I would say the ice is about one and half inch thick all over but in the Lindon/American fork harbor it looks to be two inches thick. Needs another week of solidifying then it would be safe. Hope this helps.

Monday morning I could see a skiff of snow in a few places on the lake as I drove passed Orem heading for SP canyon. I might run down and take a closers look this afternoon but my guess would be we're still quite a ways out for safe ice on UT lake. Its very shallow and with a slightly warm day or two what ice is there will melt fast. Whats more, any W now will break the thin sheet up fast.
