A couple of weeks ago there were lots of posts about ice fishing at Scofield. Lately, there haven't been any. Is anyone going there anymore, or has the action dropped off to the point where it's not worth the trip?

I was up there with my 3 yr. old last Friday and was still catching lots of fish. I posted a report on the trip. I believe that Coldfooter posted a report last weekend as well and also did well, so i think it is still worth the trip. A lot of us are now salivating about Strawberry and the perch lakes so our attention is not on Scofield any more.

I did post a report about fishing Scofield last Saturday. Basically I found the bite fairly good for bows to about 17" while using shiners. The best advice I can give is (Get away from the crowd).
LOL,,, Arent we all a bunch of fickled fisher-people? If the bite is bigger or faster we seem to make a wild dash to the latest hard top. And, with any luck, the Berry will soon be little more than a distant memory for me until next spring. Come on FG!!!
Shame on me for being so fickled, but hey, I need to practice my hookin' technique![

I was up at Scofield last Saturday as well. Between myself and my brother we pulled in 30 fish. Not the fastest day I've had up there, but nothing to comlain about in my book. The biggest reason I'm headed to the Big Berry tomorrow instead of Scofiled is cause it's 1/2 hour closer for me and I've got obligations in the afternoon. Like was already stated, for the best fishing, get away from the crowds.

[cool]Lynnie, I agree with what both of these gentlemen said. Scofield is probably alright right now, but it has about 12 inches of ice now with these frigid temps. To me, Scofield is what it is, and that's the first lake with ice (besides Hunington) so I fish there first for the first month while I wait for the berry to freeze. The fishing at Scofield is usually best during the first month of ice on from Thanksgiving til about now. Scofield is fun, and there's mostly bows, so you know if you are craving a trout meal you'll get it there almost guaranteed. With that being said, the fish aren't as consistantly as big this year as in some previous years with most of the gish this year probably averaging 13 or 14 inches with all of the dinks thrown in, and then with a few 17 inchers on the big side of things. You could go there this weekend and probably have a good time, but you pretty much know what you are gonna catch. When you go to the berry, you never know how big that fish might be that's comin' outta the hole, and that is what's great about that place. This is the time of year I turn my attention to Strawberry (for the monsters) and the Percheries (should be coming on any time now).
You could probably go up to Scofield and have a good time, and it shouldn't be as crowded as some places on Strawberry will be, because unfortunately, word is getting out that the ice is on at the berry, and the fish are much bigger this year. Good luck out there. If you want to know a great spot at Scofield, send me a pm.
