I hit Lost Creek on Saturday with my 7 year old boy, but didn't get there until after 8:30 a.m. Iced 2 right off the bat, a cutt and a bow, then it died down. I left the fish finder home, so I was fishing blind. It was pretty windy and I was glad I had the tent for my boy. (Hated pulling it back up the hill though.) Only ended up catching 6 altogether, 4 cutts and 2 bows. As I was gathering up the equipment at 12:30 my boy hooked a 14" rainbow that I later found out was full of eggs. It was beautifully colored and was a nice end to the day. I tried nearly every color in my box but the pink jigs worked the best. Caught them on both tubes and curly tails.

Thanks for the update. I was thinking of heading up there on Saturday, but the wind was howling, and I hate fishing in a stiff wind. Glad you guys could catch something though.
Welcome to BFT!

Thanks. Been a member for a few months, just haven't been out much. Spent too much time hunting.

Me and my daughter only got one that day and one bite. I am not real sure why it wasnt better. The one fish we did catch was on a glow head and pink body and a piece of berkley maggot. We were fishing just off the bottom in about 40 feet of water. I don't have a FF either but I riged one pole with a string tied at about 20 foot mark so I can make a better guess at depth.

Until you can get a fish finder, fish in an area that there are other folks fishing, that have a finder. Ask them the deep the fish are. Most folks will be happy to share information with a dad and kid. I have not heard of much success using power maggots. Most trout are taken on jigs and worms of some kind. Post your next trip and ask if anyone else is going to be there that could help you. As said before, watch for the BFT and the Doug Miller parties. There will be a lot of people that will be willing to help you at either place. Don't get discouraged though, as you learn more, your catch ratio will improve. We all have to start sometime.

I try not to be a annoyance to the people fishing near me. I know that I really enjoy seeing other people and their kids around me but I know that others are not as excited as me.
As for the maggots that was the only bait I had cause I left the worms in the fridge at home. My daughter said don't forget the worms but hell I did it anyway.
I have fished a bunch but I stopped about 8 years ago when my first was born, but now she is the one who wants me to get out. I want to go to the rockport trip but I have to leave for a 2 week reserves trip that day. Maybe there will be other trips that we can attend. It always seems the reserves weekend or trips fall right when I want to go someplace or do something. There must be some special mathematical formula they use to come up with the weekends we have to be there. Maybe to test our commitment.

If you have a frs radio, shout out on channel 12. I usually carry mine with me, but often don't announce my presence, because I'm there to fish, not socialize. But, if someone calls out, I usually answer. I take my fishfinder with me, and I bought a bunch of wax worms, which I may not use all of, so if I'm around when you're fishing, I'd be happy to share whatever I have, even if it's just confirming that I'm having a crappy fishing day too.

I know what you mean. At least I never had drill on the opener of the deer hunt.
