[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]Bear Lake Access Condition as of
Friday Afternoon, January 14, 2005
For those of you who are interested you probably read the last report I posted from Tuesday 1/11. Well this is a weekend update of the access conditions here at Bear Lake.
After receiving well over three feet of new snow earlier in the week the access to the lake for boat launching is still impossible, but relief is on the way from what I have been told. The lake is totally open water, however, there are some areas where ice is beginning to randomly form along the shorelines. As of today there are still no accessible places where a boat can be launched since there is just so much snow on the ground. The marina is frozen and although the ramp has been plowed you cannot launch a boat there without chopping through the ice first!
Now to the east sideā¦..The State Park has finally found a private company that said they will plow out the Cisco Beach area which will include the boat ramp. The bad part is they don't know if they get it plowed out tonight or tomorrow (Sat). Therefore, if you're coming up to fish with a boat on Saturday, do not be disappointed if you cannot launch. The best bet for fishing from a boat this weekend will likely be on Sunday or sometime next week.
Daily checks along Cisco Beach have been made this week and as of this morning there were no cisco visibly running along the shore. If you are able to get a boat on the water I am sure you could easily snag a limit of cisco off the rockpile area since cisco will typically begin running on the rockpile earlier than at Cisco Beach.
For those absolute, die-hard anglers who have small, light weight boats and cannot and/or do not want to drive across the lake. I supposed you might be able to pull a boat across the shoreline with a snowmobile to the water's edge. It is definitely too deep to walk across or try to use a 4 wheeler. Anyway, I saw one guy do this this morning and it worked. He had a 12' boat and took it off his trailer right on the highway, put his gear in the boat, then pulled it down to the beach with a snowmobile. That is hard core!! (but I bet the fishing was worth it!).
The UDWR will update the telephone answering machine on a daily basis with the latest status on the run information. We ask that you please call AFTER 4:00pm since biologists need to complete their work during the day and it is impossible to speak to everyone who calls. The UDWR Bear Lake office number is (435) 946-8501.
