Well, well; I'm gone two days and there are 59 new threads for me to look through. How's a guy supposed to keep up. I had a pretty busy fishing weekend; stawberry on friday, steinaker on saturday, and pelican on sunday. All I can say is the weather was waaaay to nice this weekend. I had to make up an excuse to use the new tent. Stawberry was a little slow, chris and I hit the marina parking lot about 7:30, saw all the people off the boat ramp and opted for the other side. We moved around a little and got into a fish now and then, both of us forgot our minnows so it was mealies and gulp maggots for us. We are both a little new at the stawberry game so every trip is learning something new, both of us iced between 6 and 10 nice fish, all in the slot on the standard stuff. Chris caught a few fish right under the ice that he got to watch the fish take his jig, I kept an eye on the sonar, but never found any cruisers that high.
Saturday I hit steinaker, a real home coming for me; it's where I broke my ice fishing teeth. It was exactly as I remember it, every single fish that comes on the sonar will at least give you a bump, it's just up to you to find 'em and hook 'em. Fished from about 2 pm until dark and iced atleast 15 fish and tightlined about a dozen more all your standard 14 -16" ers and one small brown iced by my fishing guru; all of 'em were "nice for their size".
Now for pelican, I was a little disappointed, because this leg of the marathon was originally planned for flaming gorge, but it got postponed due to no ice south of Cody, WY. I hit the same spot, with the same bait as the last trip out and got a good lesson in why it's call "fishing" and not "catching", caused I fished a lot and caught a little. The day did start out with a nice largemouth before my jig hit the bottom, but it was down hill from there. Saw tons of fish on the sonar, but very few takers. Moved a bunch and everywhere I went it was the same. I only iced about a dozen bluegill and 2 largemouth between 10 and 3. Everyone else where I was at seemed to be moving a bunch as well, just one of those days I guess. The only good part of pelican is I didn't fall in THAT lake. I fell in my own ice hole at Strawberry and was lucky I didn't go in to my icehole.
