Hi,

I'm new to this site but would like to ask some questions about the fishfinders currently on the market.

I am looking at purchasing a new fishfinder for mainly freshwater use - trolling, so it doesn't have to be too expensive and i am wondering which is the best model available for a competitive price. I'm currently looking at the Humminbird PiranhaMAX 20 or 15 .. are these particular fishfinders a good buy at the momment and has anyone found any problems with using them? Or if you have any other recommendations on current fishfinders available then that would be appreciated, however we are working with a budget of around US$100.

Picking a good fish finder is like picking a good BBQ sauce. There are so many to choose from and so many different ingredients in them that make them unique.

Hummingbird make a very good fishfinder for the price and so does Bottom Line. Eagle is like a step up and Lowrance carries a hefty price tag but for a good reason.

My recommendation would be to check out some of the demo units available at many of the retail outlets. Find the features that you are looking for and if it is possible, readjust your budget to get a product that you will enjoy for many years.[cool]

Please let us know what you end up purchasing. It is always nice to know what others are using and how they like it.

the other option that we were looking at is a Bottom Line Tournament 1100 .. so if anyone has used this before or knows anything about this fishfinder then any feedback would be appreciated

I have a Bottom line Tournament 1100 on my float tube. It is reasonably priced for the features that it has.

I have been really pleased with my 1100. It shows surface water temp, auto ranged depth, structure, and fish alert. It is backlit for nighttime use and doesn't suck down alot of juice from my battery. It even shows you the current voltage that is left on your battery.

Mine was well worth the smaller dollar amount that I spent on it.[cool]
