Howdy boys, I havent posted in awhile, been busy in the mud with the ducks but since that is over I felt the need to wet a worm today. Been waiting and waiting for Rockport to finally decide to freeze and stay frozen! Fished for a few hours by the dam in about 4" of ice this morning. Didnt have any bites till' about 8:30 or so. Ended up catching three total. The ice started seperating from the shore around 10:30 that gave all of us by the dam a scare. Our holes were like geysers, when the ice would shift, water would just start flying out [shocked]. Anyone ever heard of this? I will honestly tell you that my butt was puckered! Anyway the trout were only about 8 feet down. I was just wondering if there was any other way to get some perch on the end of the line while the trout fisshing is slow without perck meat or wax worms. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks guys. oh a have some perch fillets, woud that work?

I had a good day out there today using small nightcrawler segments on a small jig below a flasher. Other guys were catching with mealworms, waxworms, and yes, perch meat. The perch fillets you have will work just fine. I usually take different offerings on a perch trip and experiment with what "the flavor of the day" is. The key to successful perching though is keeping the bait on the bottom, proper depth and lastly, bite recognition. The perch today were between 40-52 ft. where I fished. I got nothing in deeper water. if you don't get bit fairly fast, move to another depth. Bite recognition is real tough sometimes for newbies but you get the hang of it after a while. My "rule of thumb " is if you think you might be getting bit, don't wait, set the hook. usually, there is a perch on the other end. I hope this helps some, good luck.

Good report DogGone!
We hit Lost Creek today, along with another 200 kids of all sizes. 12" of ice, and the bite was kind of slow all over. But once the sun hit the ice, we got pretty busy.

So how thick is the ice now at Rockport? I'm hoping to take a junior high group up there next weekend, but have been worried about safe ice conditions.
Any info would be appreciated.

Good chatting with you on the radio. You should have come down a bit more south and joined me, was killing them in the morning.

Sorry about lack of luck by the dam, I haven't tried it over there and probably wont unless I am aiming to catch a big brown.
