Hi there guys,

It's still not worth doing the daily reports yet but we can take heart in that a number of open-party boats are again going out on a fairly consistant basis.

As gvanzant mentioned, fishing regs are strict, it's amazing anyone is willing to go fish. Except for fishing nuts like us.

Went fishing Wednesday and enjoyed throwing back 7 species of no-no's including 36+ inch ling cod.

It is amazing how many species that are off limits. That doesn't leave many fish that can be caught until March.

Currently on the No No list are:
Any type of Rockfish
Any type of Sculpin. (California Scorpionfish which is nicknamed "Sculpin" is in the Rockfish category occording to 5 different books I have on Pacific Coast fish species0
White fish
Lings
Cabezon
Sheepshead
Cowcod (Rockfish)

It seems like the only common sportfish left are:

Sand Bass
Kelp (Calico) Bass
Varieties of Perch
Barracudas in some areas
Bonitos ( a few scattered around Catalina and Channel Islands)
Mackerel (not many people intentionally fish for these except for Lobster and Crab fishermen)
Crabs
Lobster
Sharks
Rays (non sportsfish)

Mike on the San Diego (Seaforth Landing) sez they're gonna start running to Mexican waters. Call the landing for info. Might help if people called in with a reservation so they'd know they have a group interested.

Went on the San Diego last Sunday & released 1 BSB (about 50#) one VERY nice Lingasaur (easily legal in season) and watched others release a whole grunch of Whitefish, Sheepsters, another BSB (MUCH larger than mine) blah blah blah. Just not worth going out in US waters at the time unless it's for YT at SC or Catalina.

In case ya haven't heard there's a major Humboldt Squid run happening. Get 'em while they're hot! Bring heavy gear, BTW. These things are runnin' up to 50# :o

Hi there,

Although I am partial to my Long Beach-Newport Beach area for fishing........ I gotta admit the SD guys do have the option to 'Go South' for fishing in hard times.

It's a bit hard for us LA guys to head to SD for a run across the border for our shallow water species 3/4 day boats. Not saying I wouldn't try to make a consecutive 3 fishing trip trip down that way though!

Hi there TubeN2,

Nice fishy roundup... well.... fishy no-take roundup. Boy am I glad I got my lifetime license. I can really feel like I'm getting my monies worth a few years down the line huh!

By the time that DFG, PETA and whoever else is involved with the closures gets done, they will open all the species back up as long as you don't use a hook on your line.[crazy]

JapanRon I hear THAT! I've made a few runs to LA Harbor & Pierpoint for 3/4 & "all day" charters. Man, that drive home is BRUTAL! Especially on weekdays. I always take the 73 Toll Road to get a bit of a breather from the traffic. Haven't ridden the Pierpoint lately. They still puttin' out that 5# Breakfast Burrito?[shocked] Fishslayer [/reply]
