Hit Lost Creek this morning with my boys and one of their friends, for a few hours. Needless to say they spent 90% of the day sledding while I fished. They paused every now and then to pull a fish through my hole! [Tongue]

Fishing was slow though for Lost Creek standards. Probably only landed 7-8 fish and lost a few others. I did graph alot of fish and spent alot of time playing with my new fishfinder. Holy Cow that thing is flat awesome.

It's the Humminbird 565 (http://www.humminbird.com/products.asp?ID=365). They claimed it had the real time of a flasher, perks of a LCD, etc., and I would have to agree. The darn thing was amazing and funner than actually fishing!! It was awesome to watch the real time zone. If I even twitched my line, it showed up as I was doing it. They delay was insanely small and my brain couldn't catch it. The "flasher style" real time zone, mixed with the LCD "history" readout is a great innovation. I'm very impressed and think the color model might truly bridge the gap between the two style of units. It wasn't hard watching light grey goto black like green/orange/red, etc of the flasher or see my jig as light grey, etc., but think color would be the kicker and make it complete. The 640 vertical pixels really made the whole thing too. The pixel detail was crazy.

Considering the thing only cost $199, I'm one VERY happy camper. Man.. I'm beyond excited to try it now on a lake with bigger fish...

We were in 49ft of water, white or green whatta crickets/boogers tipped with mealies. Wish I had brought some crawlers or waxies. Some fish wouldn't hit and it was driving me nuts watching them swim up... then leave.

Thanks for the info about the fishfinder I have been looking for one to get for the boat. they have them on ebay for it seems like a good price.[Smile]

I did more research on them then I probably should have. My wife says I did more than when we built our house... ehh... probably true!

I'm a LCD fan, but jealous of the flasher features. I think they are getting close with units like this. Small feature seperation, split window (LCD/Flasher style), high pixels... can't imaging the models in years to come.

Keep in mind, I did my research based on features with price a factor.[Tongue]

[cool]That sounds like a great fishfinder, fishin4fun! It's great that they are starting to get the flasher technology now without having to by a flasher that's only good for icefishing. I was watching Babe Winkleman's fishin' show a few weeks ago and he was ice fishing for Perch in Minnesota, and he had one of those Lowrance i67 or something like that, that did the same stuff the one you have sounds like, but yours is probably cheaper than that one.

[black]Sounds like the new sonar set up work out for you. Is there anything you would of done to make it better now that you had a chance to set it up and use it??[/black]

Thanks for the feedback on the finder fishin4fun. I guess I'll have to pick one up now, but probably the 535.

BLM-

I need to modify the transducer setup. Don't really know how, but had to adjust to be straight, etc. I've been used to this for years, so now I'm getting picky. Also, I'm planning on getting a Johnny Ray mount this week (as mentioned in the other post).

Other than that, the set up is awesome. So nice to just pack the cooler, pull out the finder, plug it all in and go!! Again, props to you and kentofnsl!

Mateo-

I was 5 mins from buying the 535 several times. Paid an extra $50 for 2x those vertical pixels and the dual beam. The dual beam was cool (hollow fish icons), but don't know how it helps other than to show where fish are traveling (still cool, yes). Other than those two things the 535 is a twin, etc. I'm impressed with these units and the 535 comes in a portable pack for $50 more. I spent that much for my rig up... well.. the battery was in there too ($29) and that portable version uses 6V latern batteries, etc.

I guess it'll depend on my mood and bank balance when I go to get it. I'm happy with my old humminbird, but I'm due for an upgrade. I've also got a gift certificate to sportsman's burning a hole in my pocket. My current finder has the wide transducer, but I don't think I'd miss it that much. I'm really looking for more pixels and the real time sonar feature.

Sportsmans will order you the 565 (it's not on the shelf at Riverdale anyway, might be elsewhere, etc.) Riverdale said 1-2 weeks, $199, etc. They had one 535, $159.

A new fish finder is always fun, especially the first time out. Sounds like you had the same luck I did. I couldn't hook a fish for my life. Only landed 2, but must of had 30 bites. I found the old river channel where it dropped from 51 to 57 feet. Pink was the best color by far. I used a little #8 pink and glow ice fly. Strawberry on Saturday should be fun.
