I took my kids and a friend up to Scofield on Friday. The ice was brutally thick for me with my hand auger, but it was well worth it. At one point in time, I caught 4 fish in about a 10 minute period. Overall, we ended up with 15 for the afternoon, with many missed bites on my kids' poles.
My buddy caught a nice 19' bow that was probably the fattest trout I've ever seen in real life. I've posted pics. Unfortunately, we didn't have a camera with us so he had to take the pics at home. The fish is no longer as colorful as it had once been.

nice bow... what were u using, and what area of the lake were you fishing?

We fished the Southeast side about 70-80 feet out from shore (10' of water). We used various green jigs and ice flies tipped with nightcrawler.

Its always a hoot to fish with kids. A lot of time it re-news a person respect for peace and quiet, but, theres nothing like the joy and determination on a youngsters face while they twist the reel handle knowing there something on the other end of the line,, so its all good..
Good to see you guys got into a few bows.

[cool]Nice bow, and thanks for the report. Did you notice if the water is starting to come up at all yet, or is it the same as earlier in the ice season? That lake REALLY leads a lot of water this spring, that's for sure! The deepest spot that I've found there this year was 16 feet out past the shacks, and that ain't much! The usual depth for Scofield when full is like 50 feet.

There were some signs of water pushing through the snow at the shoreline, but it has long since refrozen. The level seemed basically the same as earlier.

I love taking the kids. They had a particularly fun time on Friday because they didn't get too bored sitting by the poles. My 6 year old daughter even caught a 15" bow while holding the pole this trip. It's a lot of fun to just watch her excitement as she reels feels it hit and reels it in.
