Yeouch, that would hurt like the dickens, just goes to show that you had better pay attention at all times. I hope that he cut the end off of the hook, it would be easier to pull back through

It is an unfortunate situation when that happens but if it does happen to you follow these simple steps to recovery.
1. Don't try to pull the hook out when it is fully embeded. It will help to block the hole and keep the injury from getting other objects in the punture site.
2. Cut the line attached to the hook to prevent further damage.
3. Have someone else take the picture for you.
4. Stop the bleeding by applying a small gauze bandage to each side of the puncture and elevate the puntured bodypart. (hand, foot, eye, arm)
5. Get yourself in route to a doctor. They are trained in proper hook removal and can get you on the road to fighting off any infection.
6. If you didn't follow rule #1 then this applies to you. GO TO THE DOCTOR ASAP!! Just because the hook is out doesn't mean that the injury has come to an end. As you pulled the "fully embeded" hook out, you just pulled some new stuff into the hole.
I hope this helps those whom encounter a similar situation.

[cool][font "Roman"][green][size 3]Good medical advise tubeN2. One more thought in that if you haven't had a tetanus shot in the past 10 years then that would certainly be a strong recommendation to get one.[/size][/green][/font]

Thank you for some clarification on the trip to the Doc.
That's exactly why the trip to the Doc is always recommended. If you can't remember when your last Tetanus shot was, the Doc will be glad to refresh/retrain your memory with a new one.[pirate]
It seems kind of strange to some people. "Why would the Doc treat a punture wound with another puncture"? ha ha

I got HOOKED in the finger at a very tender age by a 4lb peacock bass as it desperately shook as it faught for LIFE[frown]
If you never listened to anything I said here on big fish ,believe you me,pinch the barbs down on ALL your hooks so the day you get hooked it wont hurt as bad. The hook will come out easier..Or get barbless hooks![
