Hit the berry with my brother and one of his friends. Was planning to be on the ice about daybreak but was first on the scene of a rollover just before the Daniels summit. I don't know how the kid survived or how he stayed on top and didn't fly right off the edge of the embankment. He was just getting out of the upside down car when we pulled up. Had a bad cut on his hand, but nothing else, at least he was wearing his seat belt. We called 911 and waited for the police to arrive.

After arriving we loaded the sleds and headed to Indian Creek. Action was pretty hot for the first 3 hours. I had 14 by noon, my brother 10 and his friend only had 7, but nothing outside of the slot. My brother commented to his friend that he would probably catch the biggest fish of the day. I almost think he might be prophetic. At 2:30 he nailed a 24" inch cutt that he let swim after a few pictures. Fishing did slow down after 12:00. In fact I only caught three more the rest of the day. The fish were very picky and I would watch them come in on the finder, look at the bait, then swim off. I tried everything from boogers, to whatta crickets, to airplane jigs to chub tails. The chub tails did entice the bigger fish. My biggest was a 21 1/2" cutt.

All in all a fun day. My brother, who always outfishes me, ended up with 25 and his friend landed 14. Catching 56 fish between the three of us wasn't too bad.

Bad cut and that's it? Amazing!

How did the storm late last week affect getting around on the ice? Is the snow or slush deep (ie: do I need snowshoes)?

Thanks!

Thanks for the report PDS. It seems if you can get away from the crowds, you can find more active fish. Good luck on your next trip.

The snow wasn't bad. The snowmobiles stayed pretty much right on top of it. There is not slush at all, so it makes moving around pretty easy. I tried to post a couple of pictures, but they were too big to upload onto the site. I will have to learn how to cut them down so they will fit. I haven't spent much time with my digital, so I will have to play around with it and see what I can do.

How about a 4 wheeler on the ice? Is it even an option anymore? Or is the snow too soft and deep? We were hoping to go this weekend, but don't know if the 4 wheeler would be worth bringing.

There would be no problem getting around on the ice with 4 wheelers. We parked in the plowed view area just past the ladders on the way to the Soldier Creek side. You could have easily taken a 4 wheeler down the hill from there. The number of snowmobiles that had been taken down the hill had packed it down pretty good. I don't know about other areas though, haven't been up there as much as I would like to this year.

Sorry, I forgot to add that there is hardly any loose snow on top of the ice. There is a frozen layer of snow on top of the ice with very little loose stuff on top of that, the deepest we found was only a couple of inches deep. Although I'm sure some patches of deeper stuff are out there.
