For your budget Fourstrings88 I'd get a spinning reel and a med, to med/light rod. For distance I found 8lb Fireline to get it out there far. I found a reel on e-bay that was advertized on BFT only $10 for my granddaughter. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Welcome back. What kind of setup do you have now?? Are you using a spinning, baitcasting or conventional reel???

What would you like to have?? You could always check out some of the specials from Cabelas. Just click on the banner on the top right hand of this page. They are going through an inventory clearance. That usually sparks up some good deals.

I wouldn't use fireline it gets moldy and fray's I would use 8 pound or 10 pound green braded spiderwire.

THanks Guys Well Iam on a conventional shakesphere rod/reel combo that I go a while back ago which is a spinning rod.

And I would like to have like I said somehting that lasts and will not break and will go easy rell in and casting.i will check out Cabelas. But I also need to know what brand name should I get Quantum for reel...or a combo brand this would help very much and if you guys see anything on EBAY or know anyone who I can get a good reel or from lemme know.

Oh! also ....SPIDERLINE or FIRELINE???

Thanks

For the price range that you are looking for, you may be able to get a slightly different Shakesphere set up, a medium range Quantum setup or something even from Shimano.

If your budget was just a little bit higher then I could suggest something along the lines of an AmbasSador. You can get a nice combo for about 70 bucks.

hi Fourstrings88 i would look into the rods from Southbend. I bought a awsome lil med action bass rod called the black Beauty 2 made by Southbend it runs about 12 bucks Canadian. And allmost every wallmart has them every where. The reason why im suggesting this fishing rod is because for 12 bucks and taxes of course you get a darn good rod.Its kinda like a uglystick in the construction of the rod. But with a bit more back bone and sensitivity. It proved its self to me and for the price you cant go wrong.I Caught some big Catfish while i was fishing for Rockbass in the river on that pole and it handle it well. Its a tuff lil rod 4 Catfish all 25+ pounds with no breaking. So check it out next time your @ Wall mart. hope this helps
How long have you've been using fireline because my line started fraying and getting moldy when I had my line on for about a month or two.

Then some told me about braided spiderline and he said it does long acturate cast's so I tryed it and I have been using it since I bought it.

I've used fireline for the past three years and have not seen any mold or excess fraying. I did have spider wire groove out the guides on one of my rods so watch for that.

I have a pinnacle 8foot rod that I use in saltwater and haven't had any problems with it its a nice rod with a good action I have pulled in some big stripers and Bluefish with this rod I don't know how the reels are though I haven't tried one yet one time I hooked a big striper while fishing for Ling which is a much smaller fish and not as hard a fighter pulled in the striper was using 8 ounce sinkers in 150 feet of water with a strong current and it handled everything fine
