I'm sure alot of y'all at one time or another have used those clip on pole bells on your rod and reels while night fishing so you would know when you got a bite. Well while we are camping on the river we clip those bells on the limblines we set out so we have an audible alert when we have a fish on in between the times that we are checking them. My thought on this is that the sooner the fish is taken off the line and CPR'd the less tramatic it will be on the fish....Just my way of thinking

You are exactly right. The longer a fish fights, the less chance of survival after you C&R it.

When a fish is stressed under a fight, it releases lactic acid. A small amount is like a little of a minor shock to the fish. A large dose is like an OD on any drug.

For those who enjoy the long fight and follow up with the fish as table fare, don't complain about the tast of the meat. The build up of the lactic acid also alters the flavor.[cool]

Thank you nightcrawlerr once again for an awesome article. I'm sure this one will get alot of response as well.
