Had the chance to take the family out for a short fishing trip to Locomotive today. The weather was really nice, and the fishing wasn't too bad either. There aren't a ton out there, but we managed to catch quite a few in a couple of hours. Worm under a bobber worked well for us. I was surprised how many people were out there fishing today. Perhaps they recently planted the ponds and the word was out. Nice day to be out of doors.

Was the access to locomotive real muddy? can I get there in a passenger car or do I need a 4WD?
Thanks for the report!

The access was really good. A car can make it out without difficulty. It was a little muddy right at the ponds, but not bad.

Did you see any bunnies?

I only saw one run across the road on the way back. There were quite a few dead ones over by Thiokol, but not many past there. I'd like to see a return to the glory days out there again, but I don't think that is going to happen.

My younger son is turning 12 this year, and I'm getting jazzed about doing some hunting this year. Bunnies are definitely on the list. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen many near the springs, but we used to do well west of there.

I used to hunt rabbits out there a lot, but the last few years have seen a serious decline in the number of hoppers. It seems like there are people out there plinking at all times of the year, and the rabbits can't breed like....well....rabbits. I'll usually take one drive out west past Kelton once a year, but lately it has just been that, a drive. Good luck, and I hope your son has fun.
