Hey guys I know this should probley be on the off topic but I got a buddy who wants to take off at the butt crack of down to go use some medal detectors and see what we can or cant find....so if anyone is will to give up some info you guys have any it would be great. he is thinking like old ghost towns or forams or ranches more out west to make it easy and not a lot of snow. A friend and it did that about 3 years ago, we went out to where we thought that the old silver city ghost town would be, the very firast place we tryed we found 2 walking liberity half dollars. A good place to start if you can find the maps would be out around eureka, there are alot of old mining ghost towns out thata way

Old mining towns are good, but not as good as the tailings piles. The miners of yester year did not have the technology we have today. If they could not see the gold they figured it wasn't there. I have found some great pieces by scanning tailings piles and smashing the rocks that give a reading. If you can travel to Idaho try the rivers that were dredged by machines looking for gold. Most of them could not seperate big nuggets only the dust. There are nuggets to be found if you look for them.

I dont know why i didnt think of this before, but 30 miles south of me is bullion canyon, it is a old mining canyon, you can pan for gold in the river up there, i havent tried it yet, but i have always wanted to, you post just reminded me of that.

I don't know about you but I absolutely love panning for lures at Jordanelle, and Deer Creek. There was a year back in the 90's when I had a blast finding lures at "The Rock" at Yuba... found like 30 crankbaits which I replaced the rusting hooks with brand new o-rings and hooks. Imagine the money I saved and all that fish I caught for free?[cool][

I have a few friends at work that are always talking about metal detecting, there are several ghost towns in Wyoming they go to. One local location thats been good the last few years with the low water is the old Salt Air. It is on the same road that goes out to Antelope island on the south side. A lot of it is under water when the water level is high but they have found a lot of gold rings there in the last few years. The bad part is the walk in, there have been some problems the last few years with people driving ATV's out to the island, so they closed the road off. I'm not sure of the exact distance but I think one of the guys said it is 1.5 miles, they said they were riding bicycles most of the way but then it gets muddy and they had to walk the last 1/4 mile or so.
