DO ANY OF YOU FLAMING GORGE REGULARS KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER THE ICE WILL BE AROUND? WE WOULD LIKE TO MAKE ONE MORE TRIP OVER BEFORE IT'S GONE. ANY AREAS THAT ARE FISHING GOOD RIGHT NOW? IS THERE ANYWHERE IN UTAH THAT IS FROZE UP OR IS IT STICTLY A WYOMING THING? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I might be wrong but I wouldnt look for fishable ice much farther south than Anvil or the northern twin Buttes area. Even at that the ice in those areas could be rather iffy by the weekend.
Good luck.

From what I saw this last weekend I would say Don is right, even as far south as Squaw Hollow(it has been renamed but I can't remember the new name), the ice is starting to pull away from the shore. The area around Buckboard and north should be OK for this weekend but if these temps continue the ice won't last long. WH2

I HAVE NEVER BEEN UP TO THE BUCKBOARD AREA. ARE THERE ANY GENERAL LOCATIONS UP THERE YOU COULD POINT ME TOWARDS?

Right WH2. It wont last long with the day tim emps they have been getting.. It about time to roll the boat out.

While some of us still refer to it as Squaw its been renamed "Holmes Crossing" and its clearly marked as is Buckboard Marina..

i talked to a buddy last night that lives in manila,he said that there is open water past the pipline going north. We have had steady winds 15-20 mph the last few days, and the temps are in the high 40's lower 50's during the day.If this keeps up,iam thinking that maybe by this weekend putting a boat in at anvil draw might be a real possibilty.

As for the ice around buckboard, it's still there but i really dont know how thick it is,if ya really wanted to know you might call the store at buckboard and ask them.

The last two times I have been up there, we went up to Green River Wyoming, then followed road 530 south. It would help if you had a map of the Gorge, like the Fish-N-Map. Once you leave Green River, you travel about twenty miles then start looking for road #11, it turns East toward the lake. This might not be the best place to fish unless you want to walk a long distance 1/4 of a mile to a mile. The fishing might be good there if you go all the way out onto the ice. If you go past road 11 you will see the turn off to Buckboard. You can also go down the next road after Buckboard and fish a lot closer to the shore. I hope this helps, I'll send you a PM with some more info if you want. WH2

J.T.-

I was out on the lake Saturday. We launched at Lucerne and fished all day. We ran up north to check out the ice situation. It was open water past the pipeline about a half mile. There was some floating chunks to watch out for. I seriously doubt that even with some W and fairly warm days there will be open water as far up as Anvil by the weekend. It is not too far off now but not by then. Good luck.
