COMINS LAKE
Most of the lake is free of ice and anglers are doing well for trout that range from two to three pounds. Some five-pound rainbow trout have been caught as well by anglers who are casting live worms to the hungry fish. Comins is located along U.S. 93 approximately 7 miles south of Ely.
[#990033]EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR [/#990033]
Pete Gill from Nevada State Parks said that fishing has been good following the recent NDOW trout plant. Fishing pressure has been heavy and anglers are landing stocker size rainbow trout. Most anglers checked had 3 – 4 fish each.
The water is still a little murky, but it is not having an adverse affect on the fishing.
[#990033]ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR[/#990033]
Ben Johnson from Nevada State Parks said that anglers are enjoying some of the best fishing so far this year. Rainbow trout that averaged 11 inches were commonplace. PowerBait, live worms and an assortment of top water lures were taking the fish.
The water is still a little murky, but it is not affecting the fishing.
[#990033]LAKE MEAD[/#990033]
High winds that raked the lake during the past week have made for difficult boating and fishing conditions. Even so, fishing appears to be on the upswing for striped bass with shore anglers taking fish from the fishing dock and Hemenway Fishing Point while boaters have had recent success from Black Island to Las Vegas Wash.
The good news is that the lake’s water level is increasing and has inundated some areas that can now be fished. These areas include Las Vegas Wash and the Virgin Bowl.
Small stripers that are being seen at fish cleaning stations by Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks are in good shape while many of the larger fish that are being caught in the Boulder Basin are thin.
A boater who was fishing in the Overton Arm over the weekend managed to catch and release a few largemouth bass at St. Thomas and behind Fish Island. However, the fishing has generally been slow in that part of the lake.
Creel census clerks have not seen any crappie recently at the cleaning stations in the Overton Arm.
[#990033]LAKE MOHAVE[/#990033]
Anglers who were on hand for Friday’s rainbow trout plant at Willow Beach had fair luck for the planters, although the action fell off from the previous week’s plant.
Most anglers managed to catch a few 12-inch trout and some fortunate fishers reeled in rainbows that weighed 3 to 5 pounds. The next plant is scheduled for Friday ( 4/1/05) morning.
Fishing activity was nearly nonexistent over the weekend at Cottonwood Cove due to the windy weather. The action for striped bass has been slow in that area of the lake recently.
Dan Maes, Installation Technician said that despite sporadic winds and snow flurries, fishing has been good on all reservoirs.
Rainbow trout that weighed up to three pounds were taken from Cold Springs and Haymeadow Reservoirs. One angler fishing Adams McGill landed a trout that weighed in at 3 pounds 12 ounces. PowerBait and worms were landing the fish.
Maes would like to remind anglers that the creek below Adams McGill reservoir is reserved as a waterfowl nesting area and fishing is not allowed. He also noted that camping is only allowed in the approved camping area.
[#990033]URBAN PONDS[/#990033]
Surprisingly good fishing for rainbow trout has taken place during the past week with the best success being found at Floyd Lamb State Park where anglers are using PowerBait and small lures to catch the fish. NDOW has concluded its seasonal trout plants, but will be stocking channel catfish through the summer months.
