i went camping recently in an area well known for it's great hunting and fishing, and as i was walking down to an area to see if i could catch me some good sized fish i couldn't help but notice the amount of trash that has been discarded on the side of the trails and off the dirt roads. i couldn't help but think if people like this area so much and want to keep the hunting and fishing numbers up, why not pick up your trash? i spent a good hour just picking up cans alone, this message goes out to all the people who know better and by spreading my concern about my favorite fishing hole maybe you the reader of this message will pass the word on to friends family and strangers about picking up their trash around YOUR favorite fishing hole, come on guys it's not that hard to throw some trash away, plus it makes the enviroment healthier and look better for others to enjoy.
thanks, keep bein a responsible sportsman and keep on fishing--good luck
Dude, I've been waiting for the perfect reason to use this
y icon[angelic]. You are an angel!!! I agree 100%! I do not like seeing garbage around my favorite (or any) fishing waters. Thanks for being responsible and PLEASE keep up the good work!
Welcome to the boards and Thankyou!!! (nice handle too!..plankton is cool)
P.S. Allthough your message is important, I believe that you'll find the members of this message board to be of top quality and I doubt that any cans or trash have been left behind by them. WE RULE!!!

I agree with you too.My wife blew a gasket last year when we went to lincoln beach. There was trash everywhere people leaving mudcats and channels to rot away and carp too.We picked up a lot and i mean a lot of trash from there evertime we went fishing. There should be some law enforcement keeping an eye on all the violators bet they make a killing in fines![sly]

[cool]Chumbucket, welcome to the BFT/Utah board, first of all. 2nd of all, I agree with your sentiments, as do probably over 90% of this board are excellent sportsmen that believe in taking care of our outdoors for future generations, so you are probably preaching to the choir. However, there's probably a ton of "guests" lets call them, that will never register here because they just like to take, and not give.[mad] Some of those types might be the people that need to hear what you said, so I'm glad you posted it!
As you can tell by my signature line below, I believe in packing out whatever trash you brought in. Good fishin to ya, and glad you joined the site!

Excellent comment. I know we all end up going to fishing holes where trash is a major problem. Even if everyone on this board just picked up a little trash every time they went out, imagine the impact we could make. Our example might lead others to do the same. I think the most annoying thing I run into is old fishing line. It lasts forever, snags tackle, and kills wildlife! Pack out your own line, and any line you come accross. Oh, and about leaving fish on the shore to rot, nothing destroys the outdoor experience more than stumbling accross the rotting carcass of a carp in the bush (bountiful pond comes to mind). It might be easy to just throw the fish in the bushes, but I'm sure everyone else will hate the smell a week later. I'm probably just preaching to the choir here, but maybe one or two people will think twice before they toss something instead of carrying it to the trash.
You're right one, ChumBucket! It's amazing what people do, for whatever reason they're doing it. Bad enough that garbage is left behind, but then also finding game fish such as cats left to rot. You hate to say it, but between the I-don't-care attitudes and the just plain I-don't-know-the-rules folks, it's a mess in our outdoors!
We picked up behind a guy Saturday at the 'Berry, who had left his good wrappers behind. Also, since he had purchased a "two-pole permit" he had 2 active rods down 2 different holes! Durf! And you can't tell people they're wrong; they go ballistic!
Amazing ...

You are so right and welcome to BFT.Another good example is Willard Bay,everyone says how much they love the Bay but if you drive around the South Dike god it looks like a garbage dump. Not including around the shore itself. We love to fish it but why do we trash it.It will bite us in the but one day when the water is so polluted that nothin will survive. PEACE!!!!

[font "Times New Roman"][size 3]Trashy people can quickly ruin a good experience. For example, when Provo canyon construction started allowing access again a few years ago I took my wife and then two year old to play on the bank while I fished. Since I had a little one with me I had to choose an area with easy car access. The girls set up a blanket and my daughter began to do what two-year-old kids do – explore. My wife soon called me and asked if we could move because there was too much trash and crap (yes, feces) everywhere along the bushes. We searched around but couldn’t find a clean spot to let a kid play so we left, fed up,
and disappointed to say the least. Perhaps Provo canyon is better now but I have not returned in five years now. Even when I drive through the canyon I’m reminded of that horrible experience.[/size][/font]

] Glad your with us chumbucket. I agree 100 %. It's also like that to in Wyoming where I fish alot. However it is not as bad as here. It seems like there are always a few that ruin it for the rest of us. Sad thing is, If you were out with the family enjoying the day and seen someone doing this, and confronted them about it, You would more that likely have a gun pulled on ya and told to mind your own business. Thats how crazy some of these lunatics are.
Anyhow, Thanks for doing your part. I know i always usually end up netting as much junk out of the water some days as i do fish!!!

I got into it with some guys at Jordanelle a couple years ago about leaving trash laying around[mad], They were to lazy to pick it up and take it so I picked it up and left it in their truck for them[
]. It probably ended up in the parking lot but at least it wasn't on the shoreline. Looking back it would have been best ot just take it with me, but it made me feel better at the time.
