I was wondering, I have been up to the berry quite a few times. I always wanted to catch a koke up there. Does anybody know a certain spot where there is a good chance of getting one? Or do you have to go in deeper water? I was just wondering because I would like to try to catch one. I never have.

[cool]First of all, welcome to BFT/Utah board, bigtroutfisher. Glad to have ya aboard. As for your question on kokes, I know that the most common place to find them at the berry is in "the narrows" where the lake is very deep. I've been told that you can also catch them in the fall around spawning time in the lake near where the river comes in kind of by the visitors center, but you can't fish the river itself that time of year, (obviously). There's others on this board that are a lot more experienced with them than me, so I'll let them give you more info.

Welcome to the site BTF, Out4trout is right, the Narrows are the best place to find the kokanee. Were you planning on fishing for them in the winter or summer? I know one of the guys caught one last week while ice fishing but he is the first I've heard of that caught one this winter.WH2

I have never heard of anyone who has caught one ice fishing at Strawberry, except by accident while trout fishing. When there is soft water there are several places that they frequent, but they do move around. Best bet is to ask one of the employees at the store or the marinas at Strawberry if any kokanee have been showing up and if so where they have been catching them. Having good sonar, to find the schools, and to find the depth of the schools, is almost essential to catch them.

That's a question I've been asking for many years. I personally don't know anyone that can go up there and consistently get into them. I hear of one or two being caught every now and again, heck I've trolled around looking for them, but I've never caught one. Good luck on your quest.

IN SUMMER GO OVER TO SOLDGER CREEK SIDE FISH OUT FROM THE DAM. 60 FT OR DEEPER. TROLL WITH THE STANDARD KOKE LURES. THEY CAN ALSO BE CAUGHT ON SHIMP DRIFTING THIS SAME SPOT. THEY ALSO STACK ALONG THE WALL AND AT THE MOUTH OF THE NAROWS ON THE SC SIDE. GOOD LUCK THIS SUMMER IN YOUR QUEST.

There are some guys who consistently get into them. I have had a little success when I have targetted them, but I usually am not patient enough and go after the trout.

The information so far is good I have caught quite a few of them up there and when I target them we average 3-4 a mourning. You will find them in different places during the year and the key is to find the thermacline and follow the river channel throughout the lake they hang along the sides of the current due to the oxygen and food Let me know if you want to go I would be happy to take you!
