Sorry to be so slow at posting these pics but hey life has happened alot lately.

Well anyway as most of you know, the nasty wind threatened to send our Powell trip down the toilet, but old Ron was there to save the day. Here he is fixing the toilet in Riches camper. It broke so nothing would go down.

This is about what it looked like when we tried to drift troll. Check out that wake[Tongue].

[inline BFT_02.jpg]

Hold on to your hat when the wind blows at Powell!

[inline BFT_03.jpg]

We didn't let the wind have all the fun. We scratched a few each time on the water.

Here's a few that went in to the big fish fry on Thursday. I need that fish recipe!!!

[inline BFT_05.jpg]

Between the Ron's and Rich's excellent cooking and the excellent views the trip was great despite the lack of fish in the cooler.

Here's the last fish caught before the big nasty blew us of the lake a day earlier than planned.

Sounds like a good time - even with the wind.

Hey Nate, you know it was a tough trip when the lead off picture is a toilet being unplugged! (LOL)

Nice photos and it was great hanging out at the fry. Ya know, that fish fry and the fact we all scraped up enough fish to have left overs made that trip absolutely worth it.

Good times on the water and off.

[black]Actually the problem with the toliet was a cracked flush valve. I hooked up the water to the camper and the sucker started leaking water. It was from my great winterization last fall. We ended up just putting a plug in the water supply line so we could use the water in the rest of the camper. Luckily the RV campground had a decent bathhouse and lavatory. When I got home, the first thing I did was replace the valve so the camper is ready for the next trip.[/black]

[black]Hey, Nate! Here's the basic recipe for the fish. It's a winner at all fish fries. This will make a fish eater out of almost anyone![/black]

...and to think we only sink money into boats! BLM your recipe looks fairly simple and sounds tasty, I am going to try it on my next fish fry - hopefully if I catch something at Willard this weekend! I use something very similar: Equal parts of Bisquick and beer. ie: 1cup of each. However, one can substitute 7-UP in lieu of beer. To some extent, the different liquid used in the mix imparts a different flavor. Thanks for sharing your secret - maybe we'll see you one day on the Food Network hosting your own show. If a trip is on for this fall, I may make the trek down south.

[black]Wish I could take the credit but the recipe was graciously given to me by TopCat off of wayneswords.com. I first tryed this recipe last fall at their Southern Shad Rally in Wahweap. A lot of the members from wayneswords.com got together and donated fish. TopCat and others prepared and cooked the fish with this recipe. From the first bite I wa shooked. [/black]

[black]I prefer to use cake flour or a mix of 1/2 rice flour/cake flour to lighten the batter up. I don't care for too much breading. I've used premixes and such before but, for my taste, tend to be too sweet.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Also I conned BearLakeFishGuy to give me his Tartar sauce recipe and it's pretty tasty. I first tried his recipe at the Cisco Disco this last winter on Bear Lake and between enjoying BLFG and Jim Stone's cooking of cisco, which till that point I had only used for bait, and the homemade Tartar sauce. Wow! Delicious![/black]

Maybe we'll have to plan a fish fry after the BFT Willard Wiper Tourney this year. It's a thought...

Thanks for the recipe. I am having a fish fry with some family this Sunday and will test out all the knowledge I learned at powell.

Thanks again.

Hey!
Nice stuff!
We are heading to Powell for Stripers next Friday 4/22. If you wouldn't mind sharing some Striper tips, it would be appreciated. I've never fished for Stripers before and I know there are tons of optional techniques. I've spent over $50 on striper related lures and such just from what I've read and now I've probably got $50 worth of junk that I don't need. We will be launching at BullFrog.
If you don't mind, would you mind sharing some techniques, times of day, locations, lures, baits, etc.?
Thanks!!!
Randy

The best source of current info is www.wayneswords.com then check out the "anglers corner" and the "fishing report" links. You can ask Wayne questions and he is pretty good at giving a personal reply. The conditions are changing all the time so check his site and good luck to ya.

[black]As fishnate stated, [/black][black]wayneswords.com[/black][black] has the most recent and current reports on Lake Powell. Right now the south end of the lake is more productive than the Mid Lake (Bullfrog) area. The stripers are ready to spawn and the chance at a hawg is there.

Last week, we were in Bullfrog and it was slow. We trolled JP Rigs at .5-1.0 mph with whole anchovies. This was, by far, our most productive method. We caught a few on cranks and a couple on bait night fishing but the JP rigs worked the best. Go to [/black][black]http://powellstripers.com/[/black][black] to learn what JP rigs are and how to use them.

Take some jigs and use them when the opportunity presents itself. If you troll through a large school and there are no takers, turn around and try jigs or bait. Tip your jigs with a little bait too.

Take some submersible lights and try night fishing off the docks or tie up to the buoy fields or tire lines by the marinas. When night fishing, the 40-60 ft range is supposedly the most productive even if in deeper water. Throw out chum but don't overdo it. You want to get the fish below you to feed but not fill up on your chum.

[/black][black]wayneswords.com[/black][black] has all this info and more so go spend some time over there and check it out. Its a lot like this place. If you can sift through the trash, there are some definite pearls of wisdom there. Good Luck.
