Wow Willard Wipers!

Took my wife and daughter to willard for the first time. We went sat and sun. Trolled with crankbait and didn't get a bite. My wife trolled with a jig and caught two wipers on sat., the biggest being 23 inches! Sunday we started late but my wife was still able to catch another wiper. There was a guy on shore that was killin em with a white tube. He said he caught 20 fish and I believed him because we saw him catch two in less than 5 minutes. I didn't catch a thing but I was extremely happy because I wanted my wife to have some action and WOW did she have a fight with them wipers!

Thanks for posting your report and welcome to the site FNC.
I bet your wife got excited catching her first wipers, what color was the jig she was using? What area of the lake did you see that guy catching all the wipers? WH2

Thanks for the info Ed, how big were these shad you saw jumping? Before they spawn most of them are 10 to 15 inches but after the young hatch(or whatever it's called), most will be just a few inches long. If they have spawned already that is a good sign, it means there could be an extra spawn this year. When their numbers are down they can spawn twice a year and I've heard that in the warm waters of the south they can spawn three times a year. In most years the shad spawn in May, so if they have spawned already the catching could get good real soon. Last weekend one of the walleye that we caught had a bunch of very very small minnows in its stomach but they were so small I couldn't tell what they were. When you said you were on the North West side of the lake, I'm guessing you are talking about before you get to the lightpole? WH2

The Shad looked pretty big probably 10 to 15 inches and yes it was before the lightpole.
