what's the deal with the bubble up at utah lake? i have spent many hours pulling fish out of lincon beach and bird island, but never fished the bubble up. i've heard many stories about this place. i know the bubble up tube is no longer in opperation, so what is it that brings fish here these days. rocks? deep water? how deep is the bubble up area? i will be giving the wipers a break this weekend and will be heading out there this saturday to see for myself. i don't expect much action with this weeks cold weather, but you never know.

For some reason it still bubbles. Not as much as it used to but enough to warm the water a degree or two where it is bubbling. Smile

The bubble up was a great place to catch walleye, early in the season you could anchor out at the end of the pipe and catch prespawn eyes and then move into the shore and catch more of them in full spawn. the fish should still spawn around the area some place. I haven't fished it sence the water dropped down so low. but at the end of the pipe used to be 9 feet. later chuck

Chuck is right. The water right at the end of the pipe is deep right around the pipe, and the pipe is still there. It still drains the Geneva cooling ponds, just doesn't have as much water coming out now, and the water that does come out isn't as warm as it used to be either. On the flip side, it doesn't smell as bad any more either! The pipe also provides a wind break and a bit of structure. You can still go out there and catch some good catfish as well. Last year you could walk out for a 1/4 mile out onto the pipe, but I think it's all underwater this year. You can launch a tube from the beach to the south or right from where the pipe leaves the dike. Might have to walk out a little bit to get to deep enough water, but not much. I've caught white bass, walleye, channels, mudcats, bluegill, and largemouth bass in the area in years past when the water was higher, and all from shore right there. Maybe it will fill enough this year to provide good shore fishing again there.

THE BUBLE UP WAS KILLER IN THE DAY. SAD THING IT IS DEAD NOW... SOME FISH WILL RETURN JUST NOT THE NUMBERS THAT DREW FISHERMEN BY HUNDREDS. MY BEST EYE EVER WAS CAUGHT WAIDING THE BANK THERE. IT WAS ONE FUN PLACE TO FISH BACK THEN. COMBATT FISHING TO THE MAX BUT ALOT OF FUN.
