Hey there guys,

It's that time of the week again. Went out to Catalina on Pierpoint landings' Premier with 25-30 anglers, courtsey of three skippers Danny, Jimmy, and Karl. Although we had only frozen squid, we were able to scratch out a pretty good day. The water looked really nasty but the wind stayed down pretty much all day on the inside.

We moved a number of times, fishing various depths catching calicos, sheephead, whitefish, opaleye, blacksmith perch, salmon grouper, a few sculpin (released), a big old coral bass??, or tree fish, and a very big.... legal jackpot ling cod.

With the water conditions cold and dirty, the plastics didn't get bit much and the fish seemed to be hugging the bottom. With higher water temps it's common for the bigger fish to gradually come up closer to the surface but no dice today. I used my sliding-egg rig, leadhead and squid, and Texas rig to catch tons of small bass and 1-2 pound opaleye. Fun fight on a a flippin' stick.

As the wideopen bite came later in the day we didn't get back to the landing until 6:30. The boat will go on Summer schedule: departs 6am from the 2nd of May.

Great day, outstanding crew and the usual collection of friends and characters (myself included). ha ha

Sounds like a nice trip. I also noticed that most of the species are only hitting on the bottom. I guess that is like their thermocline.

Way to go on the Opie. Those are so much fun on light gear.

We happened to run into the Primier last Sunday. We handed off some live squid to them from the Sport King. They seemed to only have about 15 anglers on board. I was just about ready to transboard when I saw that.[cool]

Hi there TubeN2,

Yea ...... that boat's a sleeper and we usually have less than 20 on a weekday. Runs now Wed-Sun. Their schedule will change as of May 2nd when they will be going out every day from 6am.
