Hey guys, Im new here. Im from Jersey and I love fishing in freshwater or salt. Im hopping to learn lots and also have fun here. Anyway, I hear boilies are really good for carp but I think Im going to try and make my own bait and see how it works. Its powdered strawberry kool aid, flour, butter, sweet corn, oil, cream, and eggs. Im hopping to make some kind of paste out of it. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions, or what you think. Thanks!

Hey Gcast67. Welcome to the BFT message boards.

That sounds like a good recipe. You might even want to try some maple syrup too.

The carp tend to have a sweet tooth.[cool]

Dang! Are you making that for yourself or for the carp? Minus the corn, sounds pretty darn good to me. Slap it in the oven and try it for yourself, it might be pretty good. [laugh]

Over here in Cali, we could roll up something like that in a tortilla and call it breakfast[cool]

Alright, I just hit up this small lake with these things and they worked well, no carp...carp werent even out tho, conditions were cold and windy water temp under 50 I believe, anyway I caught 4 of the biggest catfish Iv ever caught in about an hour. Im hopping to catch carp once it warms up. My ingredients were:
Eggs, oil, butter, syrup, cherry kool aid, corn, and cream. (still working on the amount of each) then I boiled them for 30-90 secs and they got rubbery and stuck on the hook awesome. Ill post again when I get some carp with these things.

It sounds like you had some fun inspite of the cooler water temp. There are some recipes that just attract fin of many types.

Once the water warms up to the upper 60s, you should be able to do well with the carp using the same recipe.[cool]

How big were the cat fish you caught?

I rarely catch cat fish but these things were giant, by far the fattest cat fish I have ever seen, the ranged from 2-3ft and looked like whales.

4 catfish in the 2-3 foot range is an awesome achievment for any angler with in an hours time. Many people go through their years of fishing catching the 10 inch channel cats, only hoping to one day intice a 15+ pound cat. I catfish quite often, and a fish breaking the 15-20 pound range doesn't happen everyday. Good on ya though, sounds like those cat's up your way have a sweet tooth. [laugh] Take us some pic's next time and post them on the boards. Hey, you might even win the fish of the month contest. Make shure and check that out, it's easy to upload pictures if you have a digital camera or a scanner.
