We fished willard yesterday it was pretty slow. We got two wipers and one walleye. Wipers were got trolling 2.8 both on the north dike using #5 shad raps. The walleye was got by the island on a #7 shad rap trolling 1.8.

Thanks for posting your report MM, catching is usually slow after stormy weather at least for most of us. Any size to the wipers and walleyes? What time of the day were you fishing? WH2

Every year or every other year the DWR plant between 100,000 to 300,000 wipers that vary in size from one inch to several inches. Those little wipers you and a lot of us are catching now are the makings of the bigger 15 to 17 inch wipers we will catch next year. If the shad do good this year, those 12 inch wipers could be even bigger if they get lots to eat. They are not as fun to catch but they will be in another year or two. Those little wipers were planted a year or two ago.
You can catch the smallmouth bass almost anywhere around the lake but I've done the best along the rocks on either side of the south marina, I have also caught them trolling. The largest I've caught is a 15 incher that was almost three pounds, I caught it in the channel that goes to the south marina. This could be a good year for smallmouth, the last time the water was this high the fishing for them was great. When they move into the rocks to spawn they will tear up anything that comes near their spawning bed. WH2
