Went to Rockport yesterday with my boat to work out the new refit "kinks". I did fish for a while. Graphed fish at 25-35 feet but they were not interested at all(tried trolling with leadcore first). However, the fish at 15 feet liked Rapalas(at least the perch one I used) trolled shallow at 1.4 MPH about 140 feet behind the boat with no weight. Water temp was 48 degrees. I tried for Bass in the rocks with a float and jig for about 30 minutes - but no go at all.
It was a nice day to test the modifications on my boat and trailer until the wind and rain kicked up around 2:30 PM - then all 3 boats on the lake took out because of the waves and whitecaps. The take out was an experience and it took all of the people there helping to get the boats safely out of the water. If you are not familiar with Rockport, the marina there is in just about the worst place it could be considering the prevailing winds and how they always blow from the west at about the time anyone wants to take out. I guess when they designed Rockport, they ran out of money and couldn't build a jetty or a breakwater of any kind to kind of shelter the marina. Kudos to the folks there that were willing to help with the difficult situation ! BTW - within 30 minutes of taking the boats out, the weather turned nice and the water looked like glass - wouldn't you know it.
