Met up with Richard Hepworth and his DWR employees right at 9 am. Headed for net spots. To my pleasant surprise, one of the guys on the boat turned out to be the infamous Ray Schneble of Rocky Mountian Angler club. I spied another bass boat rocketing past the dwr boat and taking photos of the gillnet efforts and I inquired of the man in the boat... it was none other than the famous smallie state record owner Clifford Sackett. Wow, what an impressive company. I was very glad to be there helping with the studies.

Results:

There's a ton of chubs in there...

There's a few huge smallies in there (water is too cold for them to get active which is why the numbers in the net are low). They were all released.

There are plenty of trout in there. There's a huge surprise in there, we released it to live once more since it's truly a trophy worthy of any wall! I would rather not spoil Bassrod's surprise with the specifics until he post that photo at 7 pm on outdoorgonewild.com .

There are lots of dink perch in there, mostly newbies with no food in their bellies on a certain net, but on another net to the other side of the lake, they had zooplankton in them.

All the nets were very close to shoreline, which means there are lots of monsters down deep and in the middle. The water needs to warm up some more for them to start coming out.

This is the first account of the north part of Jordanelle.

What?! No walleyes?! Oh yeah, just saving the suspense for the last...[Tongue] we will find out tomorrow. According to Richard, the walleyes have been found on the southern half of Jordanelle. More results coming tomorrow![Wink]

Right now, it's real stormy, had to deal with sleet in Provo Canyon. Before the storm came, it was a real nice morning on the lake!

Thanks for taking the time to report your experience with the DWR. I'm anxious to learn what trophy you're referring to and to read tomorrow's report.

"Theres a ton of chubs in there"

Thank you for the report. It sounds like there is still plenty of forage fish in there for the predators of ones choice. This is great news IMO. Did Mr. Hepworth express any concerns about the results while you were working with him?

I can't believe I'm the first person to comment on that 31-inch, 21-pound hen brown trout that you guys pulled out of Lake X. What a magnificient fish! Nice to know there are so many huge trout in Jordanelle to keep the smallies company.

The state catch and release record that came out of there several years ago was 32'' long. So there are even bigger ones than that critter.
