I need some help. I took the boat out yesterday and it ran fine. When I got home I parked it in the garage. When I came out this morning. I noticed something had dripped from the prop. It had a gas smell but looked like it was mixed with mud, kind of brown grey thick. It is a 2 stroke Merc Yr 2000. I took the prop off and found more around the shaft. I checked the lower unit oil and it was fine. Any ideas?

[black]Have you had this motor long? My uneducated guess is it's nothing more than 2 cycle oil residue from the exhaust. This is pretty common with 2 cycles. It will actually run down off the lower unit and drip on the floor. I may be wrong but I'd bet $10 thats what it is.[/black]

it sounds like its just exhaust sludge, usually after a good treatment of sea foam (or other products) in the fall it has to burn off and go somewhere. its fairly common, I'd check the plugs and run it and watch it but it should be fine.
did it smoke a little more than normal at first? thats another indication excess oil.
also check the mixture of fuel sometimes you'll get a little oil seperation in the fuel lines that needs to run its course.

Thanks for the help. I think your right. I added a fuel stabilizer in the fall and I was trolling for over 4 hrs yesterday.
