I just came across this exercise suggested for seniors, to build muscle strength in the arms and shoulders to help you during those long days catching fish. It seems so easy, I thought I'd pass it on to some of you older fisher friends. The article suggested doing it three days a week.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb. potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides, and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, then relax.

Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb. potato sacks, then 50-lb. potato sacks, and eventually try to lift a 100-lb. potato sack in each hand and hold your arms out straight for more than a full minute.

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

[black]James, if a laugh a day is good for your health, then after that one I've added a good 6 months to my life![/black]

[black]But I have to admit, when I first read "5 lb potatoe sack" I was thinking "heck, my own potato sack weighs that much!".[/black]

Coot,

Like you, I enjoy a good laugh and if you're like me (65+) there ain't much to laugh about these days.

[black]I see in your profile that you are a retired Arospace Engineer. I kind of wonder ... did anything you design fly?[/black]

that one even made my wife laugh and that is saying something.

Coot,

ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO FLY?? I hope not.

Ever hear of Trident submarines/missiles, Minuteman, Polaris, Poseidon, Peacekeeper? I don't want to be around when they start flying.

Hey BLM,

You worked at the Lazy T? I was at the Lazy H. (1961 - 1996).

Too funny. And on a good day, with the wind to my back, I think I could start out with a 10n'er in each hand without risking droppin' the taters. [Wink] HA!

BLM,

Yes, I retired when ATK bought out HI. ATK was making noises about changing retirement, severance pay, etc., etc. and I figured it was time to bail out. After 35 years I'd had enough anyway.

I spent some time at the Lazy T Rocket Ranch on various joint projects. Nice people up there.

You have a few more years to go before retirement but look forward to it and spending more time at Bear Lake [sly]. Do you commute every day?

I have a question for you since you live in the B.L. area. Do you know someone in the Garden City area (or there about) that does plumbing work cheap? I had a water line to my toilet freeze & break and I'm not sure if I'm able to fix it. I'd like a back-up just in case.

[black]Ya, I commute from Cache Valley four days a week. About 100 miles a day round trip.[/black]
[black] [/black]
[black]Sorry, I'm not famliar with ther BL area contractors but I can't imagine a frozen water line would be that big a deal. You might have to rip into a few things but fixing it shouldn't be "rocket science"! LOL![/black]
