Windknot and I fished from shore at Lake X on sunday afternoon. We started out casting jigs and cranks but after losing half of our stuff to snags we decided to just drown some powerbait. It was mostly slow with only one rainbow being caught. It was about 4lbs and 20". It's stomach had six perch in it from about 5" (2) to about 3" (4). I was surprised that it would take powerbait with that much food allready in its gut. I geuss some fish just don't know when to say when....

I wanna try some perch pattern cranks in there from my 'toon. Hopefully I won't snag to many up and lose them.

Water levels are approaching the full mark. I'd geuss 8' to 10' will top it off and there's plenty off run-off to come down the provo still.

Thanks for the tips Dudemeister. I just picked up some sweet looking soft plastic perch swimbaits made by Storm over at sportsman's WH. I can't wait for memorial day weekend to give 'em a try.

I know you've probably posted this before...but, do you have any graphical representations of how to rig various plastics weedless/snagless and still maintain good hook setting ability? I've tried a couple things but seem to just mess up the action of my lure or I get hits and just yank it out of their mouths.

Also, anyone else who might have some decent ways to rig weedless chime in here...

Thanks guys![cool]

FLOATING STICK BAITS WILL MINNIMIZE LOSSES AND THE SMALLIES WILL CRUSH THEM WORKED LIKE POPPERS NEXT TO BUSHES AND WEEDS ROCKS.

From what I here the fish were on a jerk bait bite. I didn't throw many cranks, because of the snags, and the fact that I have tennis elbow in both arms. I can't take the constant casting and cranking, all day. One thing to keep in mind, when rigging your plastics weedless, is that it is more effective to skin hook the side of the plastic bait. Instead of poking the point of the hook through the middle of the bait. You will hook more fish this way! If the lure your rigging is fairly skinny then this method is probably not needed. The fatter the plastic the harder it is to set the hook through the plastic and into the fishes mouth.
If anyone here is a beginner bass fisherman and wants some basic rigging, and lure presentation methods. Then they may want to come to sportsmans in Riverdale this saturday, for a one hour seminar on bass fishing.
