[Wink]On Monday Nov.11,2002 at 1pm, Ladder Co. 106 recieved a verbal alarm for a man who had dropped his keys into a subway grating which was about 12' below the sidewalk on Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The grates were all welded shut so the members had to get a little creative for a retrieving system. One member, John Szczech, an avid fisherman, decided to bring his abu-garcia bait casting outfit with a 1 oz. inline sinker and a 1/0 treble hook. The
members arrived on the scene and the keys were recovered within 5 minutes. The recovery operation got alot of strange
looks as well as a few laughs from the citizens passing by, but everything went smoothly as the keys were quickly fished out. Ff John Szczech L-106 FDNY
