What kind of trout are in Birch Creek Res. near Woodruff, UT and what are the best tactics to land a few?

It has been a few years since I fished Birch Creek. We have gotten some nice Rainbows and Browns out of there. We used salmon eggs.I have heard they put Tigers in there.

Here's a description of Birch Creek Reservoir

that indicates it has been stocked with rainbows and has wild cutthroat. The stocking report from last year

indicates the DWR dumped a BUNCH of 3.72" Tiger Trout in there on 7/26/2004. I'd probably try wild bates (worms, minnows, etc) instead of the silly puddy, or better yet, try artificials (spinners, spoons, flies).

Welcom aboard fishwriter. Birch Creek can be a fun place to fish. For the past few years the DWR has mostly stocked tiger trout. Last fall KUTV did an outdoors special on the little lake and it got hit really hard. Pretty much got fished out. The drought has also been very hard on it. It's only a small reservoir, so it doesn't take much to put the hurt on it. You can drive up to the base of the dam, and then you have to walk up it. It's a nice place even if you don't do well fishing. Good luck.

Besides getting hammered last fall, it had very little water coming into it and was very low. I haven't been up there this spring but I wouldn't be suprised if it didn't have a partial winter kill. It CAN grow decent fish but because of it's small size can really be impacted by pressure. If you have your heart set on going that way, you might want to try Woodruff Reservoir. It has some large bonnevilles in it.
