Arrived at Echo early on Saturday morning. I fished from the bank with my two sons near the dam. Had one bite that we missed and nothing followed for over an hour. We moved about half way up the lake and tried our luck again. The lake is completely full and it was difficult to find a spot to fish. Finally found a narrow ledge next to the water near a steep embankment. The boys got a few bites, but couldn't hook anything. I started throwing a crawfish crankbait and had a smallmouth make a swipe at it a few yards out. I jerked it right out of its mouth, it started me so much. (Sometimes polarized glasses don't help.) I repeatedly threw it out but had no more follows. I decided to put on a pumkin colored 3" tube and chucked it out where the bass had come from. I only jigged it twice and hooked him up. It turned out to be a 13" smallie. We stayed for a while longer but had no more action. We picked up and drove up echo canyon a ways and fished the small creek that flows down it. I caught two small cutts on a panther martin. This is fun little creek to fish, but the fish have no size to them. (Think Uintahs size out of the small creeks up there.) With all the rain we received this spring the grass and thistles were up to my 5 year old's chest. After hearing him complain and carrying him up and down the creek for only 15 minutes, I decided to head towards home. I stopped and bought some nightcrawlers and decided to stop at Maybe pond in Clearfield. We also had quite a few bites there also, but couldn't hook anything. I think they were small bluegills and couldn't get the larger hooks into their mouths. A person next to us caught a bluegill that was only about 5" long. The kids were disappointed that they didn't catch anything, but it was fun to get out of the house.
