I hit Quail Creek last Friday for just under an hour around 9:30 or 10:00 am on Friday morning. I had a short amount of time, so I didn't get any worms for bait for the bluegill. I was after the big bucketmouths. I dropped down from the highway south of the State park a ways into one of the little coves down there. I tossed a banjo minnow near the flooded brush at the back of a couple of coves, and around some submerged trees farther out without any luck. The water was crystal clear and I could see to the bottom even in about 8 feet of water. Never did see any bass, except for a couple babies that were hanging out with the bluegills in the brush at the back of one cove. Those banjos sure are lifelike in the water -- looks just like a dying minnow -- I love watching them as I retrieve them. I've caught a few nice bass with them at Deer Creek and at Utah Lake, but had no luck this time. If I woulda had some worms, I could have brought home bucketloads of bluegill that's for sure. It was still fun to get out on the water though. Woulda been even funner if I had brought my tube.
I met a guy that had his son out in a canoe that had caught 3 bass along the same shore that morning, but they said it was about an hour between fish, very slow, but decent sized bass up to 3 lbs. He said the largemouth were hanging tight to their beds right now. I thought they would've been done spawning by this time. Anyway, not that exciting a report, but that's why they call it fishing and not catching, right?
