Made it up to Scofield yesterday with my parents, my two brothers and a couple of their friends. Started out at our usual place with the usual bait. I got out in my pontoon for the first time all year to get nothing but a skunk. I paddled around the mouth of the dam bay for a while to get not a bite. [Sad] What a waste of time. I finally came back in around 10. I was sitting there soaking a minner with no luck when my brother got a bite. He was using my little minirod. He wasn't paying too much attention, and my pole went right into the water. [Sad][Sad] I got out in my toon as quick as I could and finally found the rod lodged between a couple rocks. Thank goodness! That would have been a $30 pole to replace. I pulled the rod to the side to set the hook and brought the pole back in to my brother. He reeled in the fish. Only a 12" guppy. That didn't make too much sense to me. We fished untill around 2. I didn't get one bite the entire time. The others in my group got a few, including a couple of 23"ers.
We started going down SF canyon, only to hit a wall of traffic. So back to Scofield we went. I started casting a gold kastmaster. I had on one decent fish(about 17" long), then hooked into my first fish. A 5" rainbow. The fish in willow pond were bigger than this fish! He was pathetic! So my dad and I went around to this little hole he found yesterday. I think its a spawning place, since most the fish we caught there were cutts with ragged, cut up tails. I switched to a minnow under a bobber after my dad got another 18" fish. 5 minutes later my mom and brother walked down, and I finally got a bite. I set the hook to him, and pulled up a 21" beauty cutthroat. It was a georgeous fish! After the fish in that spot quit hitting we walked back to the first spot we fished. I put the kastmater back on and got another 5" guppy.

It turned out to be a decent trip, even though it rained most the time and was pretty cold. Only caught 21 fish for the group, compaired to 60+ fish a few weeks ago. I'm thinking only one more trip for me till the fall.

BTW, the previously promised pictures are getting developed. I dropped them off at sam's last friday, and they should be ready next wednesday.

Sounds like Scofield wasn't the best. At least you got out. I've been trying to make it up there for probably a month now but every time I get a minute, I get another honey-do added to the list or something else comes up and has to be taken care of.

I'm heading up there next weekend though and that's that. A person can go crazy if they don't go fishing enough.

How many people were up there for the Sunday? I imagine it was pretty packed for free fishing the day before.

I got the wrong date before. [blush] Sometimes I hate being a blonde.

The crowds weren't all that bad on free fishing day, amazingly. I think there were three other groups on our side of the lake the entire day. Then again we actually pay to fish the state park so that could have been the difference.
