1. This is regarding state records and how to validate them. Ok lets say your fishing Utah Lake and you catch a new state record LMB. How do you validate this catch because it would be over 12" there for must be released? I'm sure you would measure, weight and photograph it, if you have a camera but is this enough?

2. Today I caught a white bass on a shrimp and worm combo which I found strange, not your typical white bass bait. So what type of odd/strange bait have you caught white bass on? Also would white bass take a chunk of white bass as bait?

Ok I just remembered one more.

3. My daughter noticed minnows by the shore today while we were out, what would have hatched this time of year?

This may be a good bit of information and give you an idea for bait. The ones we saw today were about a inch, inch and a half long.

To your first question, I believe that you couldn't verify it as the state catch record. What you could do though is take the state catch and release record.

I've caught whites on just about everything imaginable. Worms and shrimp are a couple of my favorite baits for them. But, the best bait(at least that I know of) is a big fat chunk of themselves. That's right. White bass love to eat White bass. Their canabolistic. Also, I've caught them on trout spinners, carp meat, sucker meat and a variety of jigs. Also, my parents have told me stories about the White bass spawn on Utah lake years ago. They'd wade out off of the West Side where it's private now and catch Whites on plain hooks. Just goes to show they'll eat about everything.

I don't know about the record validation but I do know that white bass love white bass meat. If I am catching white bass in an area on jigs I will use my second pole with white bass meat on the btm. If I am fishing for white bass on the btm I usually use a drop shot rig. The good thing is you never know what you will catch when you use white bass as bait. I have caught walley, white bass, channels, blue gill, crappie. You just never know. Good luck.

On the DWR fishing site there is a form you can print out. But, there are some rules for witnesses. Off the top of my head, one rule is NO relatives as witnesses. Check it out.

Im taking an educated guesss here, but from a legal stand point digital pictures are not admissable as evidance, they are too easy to modify. So if you wanted a picture to be some proof of a fishes size you would want it to be a film camera so there are negatives if questions arise about the validity of the picture.
