Hit Schofield this morning around 7:30 and had first fish in the boat within 5 min of trolling. Absolutely gorgeous, mirror calm, clear sunny skies, and a bite every few minutes. My grandfather seems to think that trolling is the only way to catch fish or something. Personally I din't think it was much fun.
The wind picked up around 10:00 and it got pretty choppy. Trolling wasn't working any more (thank goodness) so we decided to just buzz out to the island and then drift with the wind. We couldn't keep them off. Most were around 15 inches. Kept the ones that went 18 and came home at 1:00 with a sun burn, nine fish total and turned at least that many back.
Had hits on power bait (the old standby), crawlers, rapalas, and small tube jigs tipped with a bit of a worm.

Sounds like a great day up at Schofield. I'm hoping with all the recently flooded weeds, both the predators, and the prey will have a very good reproductive year.

A friend of mine says that Schofield is within a couple feet of spilling. He was told that they don't want it to spill because they are going to do some work on the spillway this year. Oh well. Sounds like it has more water in it than it has had in a very long time.
