Since our regular spot had too much wind, we decided to head up north.
We arrived at the Goleta Pier around 8:00pm and stayed till 1:30.
While we were there we caught several good sized Ronkies. We also listened to the locals talking about all of the nice sized Leopards that were being caught in the 57 degree water.
After pulling up 1 small Spiny Dogfish, I was convinced that the Leopards would still be several degrees away.
It was nice to come back to Goleta after not being there for many, many years.[cool]

Hey there TubeN2,
Now I can imagine the both of you hangin' off the pier rail .... crankin' up those fishys. There's always the though that at the last 10 foot mark they'll make that final attempt to flip off!

For some reason, the little fishies are more cooperative coming up when they know that they will go right back in.
The ronkies kind of give in as is but once in awhile the 10 foot mark will prevail in a final battle as you stated.[cool]

Just like the Calico Bass, the Leopard Sharks generally prefer to have waters in the mid 60s. Sometimes even warmer.
Rarely will they come inshore during cooler water temps.
I caught some out of Redondo during new years eve. The water temp was just 63 degrees but it was borderline for their existance there.
Are you familiar with the Goleta area??? I am starting to move farther north this year.
I generally fish the Ventura pier on Fridays if it is not windy but decided to move to some of my old stomping grounds.[cool]

I was able to take advantage of some of the stragling grunions that were left over in the Channel Islands Harbor there in Oxnard.
I went out on Friday night with my son and we managed to get only about 100 of them little guys.
I will be headed out to Goleta Pier this coming Friday. Perhaps you would like to meet up there. I'm sure that I can be there by about 8 oclock or shortly thereafter.
Just look for a guy with a red Big Fish hat on. I will also have my son with me. I will bring you a few Big Fish stickers if you would like some for your tackle box or wherever you would like to stick them.[cool]
