After waiting for the nasty weather to move out of the county, and after finishing my work day[pirate], Kastmaster, his son, and I took his boat up to Deer Creek to test his new trolling motor and fish a little. Got on the water about 6:15PM. We started out at the island, and tried for some bass. They weren't biting but Kast's son scored a small walleye. We then were greeted by a torrential downpour that kept us hiding for cover for about 30 minutes. We then went out again and I picked up another eye. We were marking fair numbers of fish in about 15 ft. of water which we assumed were mostly eyes, northeast of the island. We had a couple more long line releases and then decided to troll some crankbaits in the flats north of the island. Good call. We trolled 2 poles and scored 6 more eyes and a porky rainbow on rapalas and a LMB imitation crankbait. Left at about 9:15 with a total of 8 eyes and a bow. The eyes weren't world beaters in size, up to 14 1/2 inches, but were fun. They were a little on the skinny side in regards to body condition. The trout was fat. A nice evening on the water.

doggone,
Where the EYES suspended on right on the bottom?.I was there early sat morning and caught one eye the whole morning. We trolled the flats and the west side under the tracks. We used rapalas and lindy rigs right on the bottom. It was a very slow morning

The fish were mainly on the bottom in the school we worked near the island, and ranged from bottom to 5 ft. off the bottom in the "flats" when we trolled. As it got darker, the eyes were hitting the suspended lure more readily, whereas earlier on they were hitting the deep diver. The key seemed to be 12-18 ft. of water. We didn't seem to mark anything in deeper or shallower water.
