Dan,
The last few weeks I have done well with a deep diving crankbait in a perch pattern, or brown trout pattern. I especially like the countdown rapalas. Pop gear also works well trolled slowly. I have had the best luck with either copper blades with blue beads, or rainbow colored blades with red beads. Good luck!

Also, troll the west side, or along the dam. Last time I was out there 30' seemed to be the magic depth.

[red] Thanks Clint, my brother-in-law goes up there a lot but is very tight lipped. I am looking to kick his butt this time out., I hope. Thanks for the advice.[/red]

Dan,
How did you do at Echo? We went to the Rock on Saturday, but it was a little slow. 7 in 8 hours. Usually we can catch 20 in four hours. Silver blades with blue beads seemed to be the trick, however small copper blades seemed to work almost as well.

[red] Hi Garbageman, Sorry didn't make it out. my trolling motor crapped out on me . I couldn't go slow enough with the big motor. I 'm pretty sure it is a carb problem. Can't afford a new troller just yet. So I need to get this one worked on.[/red]

Dan,
That really sucks. I'm probably going to hit echo in 2 weeks, when I finalize some plans, I'll let you know. Your welcome to come when we go.
Good luck getting your kicker fixed. Clint

Funny you mentioned that. I will be out there tommorrow morning with my Brother-in-law. I am getting a Downrigger 101 class. I'll post later and let you know how we did.

We've been hittin Echo pretty regular since the derby in June. All we use are broken back Rapala's in brown trout, rainbow and fire tiger on downriggers between 30 to 45 feet down.Success seems to be dropping since the derby with warmer water and all the bonehead water skiers etc.Went on Sunday 3 Jul and caught 6 between two of us.All hogs....nothing under 16 inches.Largest was 22'' rainbow.Got off water by noon. You can probably guess why.Have fun!!

We spent some time down by the dam, matter of fact we never went any farther south than the truck rest area on the west side. There were two of us in a cream/brown colored 17 ft tri-hull.You can't miss me....I have Oakland Raider emblems on each
piece of sideglass of my windshield.Love my Raiders.Anyway...how'd you guys do?

[red] I think that I saw you out there. Anyway we didn't do too bad, we were catching Rainbows in 30-35 ft of water. Using Downriggers I was using a Krocodile in the Brown trout color. Seemed to be the ticket between 9 and 10. We managed to boat 3 about 18-21 inches. Good fighters.[/red]
