It's a beautiful day here in Provo, Utah. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and while driving in my truck today during my lunch break, I couldn't help but think of a couple of secluded spots beside certain cool mountain streams high in Utah's mountains where I'd bet I could coax a trout or two into sipping an offered dry fly.
What I find hard to believe is that while I'm having these tranquil thoughts, thousands of people half way around the world are still reeling from terrorist bombings earlier this morning. It's mind boggling to think that some group of sick-minded, twisted individuals could feel justified in placing four bombs on subways and a double-decker bus to injure so many innocents.
From what I hear on the news, nearly 40 people are reported dead thus far, and nearly 700 have been injured. Secondarily, London has had to shut down its entire subway and other mass transit systems as a result of the morning's events. Sadly, all of this happened just one day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics, which certainly brought a swift end to any celebrations Londoners were a part of.
I honestly wish there was something I could personally do. I don't know or have any ties to anyone in London, so there really isn't anyone who I could call or write to express my sympathy.
What a tragedy! I do feel that those who are a part of these secret societies whose sole purpose seems to be to kill, disrupt, and destroy should be hunted down, rooted out, and stopped at any cost.
Yes, I know that America and its allies have many enemies throughout the world. Perhaps, as U.S. and British forces reigned down bombs on Iraq at the start of the Iraqi war, many Iraqis had similar feelings to mine that many innocents were being killed senselessly.
I know that everyone has his/her own unique perspective as to who is wrong and who is right, but as one considers the devastation in London today, the terrorist acts in Madrid a year ago, and, of course, 9-11, it's clear that those who are committing these terrorist acts are nothing more than a bunch of senseless, ruthless cowards.
Here's wishing that those who have been affected the most can soon feel some peace and safety and that the city of London can quickly get things up and running again.
