[cool]Fishing Sunday with the Gitken party 8-10 miles off Bonita Beach, we caught ten sheepshead to 16 inches, 2 1/2 limits of mangrove snapper, large triggerfish and porkfish. We had a big cobia, approximately 50 pounds, come under the boat three times, but never got it to bite. Monday, 8 miles off Doc's Beach House with the McCarthy party, we caught keeper mangrove snapper, sheepshead to 15 inches, triggerfish and grunts. Fishing with the Krall party Tuesday in 34 feet off Doc's with live shrimp, we caught two keeper gag grouper, a 17 inch hogfish, large triggerfish, and a huge black drum, which we photographed and released. The drum bottomed out a 30 pound BOGA grip, and we estimated weight at 40+ pounds, which is unusual in 30 feet--Lots of fun to catch on light tackle! Fishing Wednesday in the same location with the Milley party was not as productive, due to an abundance of porpoise in the area, but we did catch keeper mangrove snapper, triggerfish & grunts, and released grouper shorts. The Gregg Bedell party fished with us Saturday, 26 miles out of New Pass, 268 degrees. Using live shrimp in 62 feet, we caught keeper lane snapper, triggerfish & sheepshead, and an 11 pound little tunny. A good way to distinguish a little tunny from a bonito is by the presence of black spots behind the tunny's pectoral fins.
