I took my son (3 1/2) up to mirror lake yesterday to escape the heat for a while and do a little catching.
We arrived around 9:00 am and had the place mostley to ourselves,
1 or 2 groups onshore and a kayaker. I was supprised because when we left around 1:00 the place was pretty full up.
We were using worms about 2 1/2' under a bobber.
the action was great for kids, non-stop fish. My son had a great time reeling em in one after another.
There are a lot of fish in that lake but they are pretty slim. 10" to 12" rainbows but no girth whatever. And tons of 6"-8" brookies. I strongly recommend harvesting some fish from this lake. Especially brookies, they are overpopulating this scenic lake. This is a put and take lake and the intention is for you to harvest fish. There is a bounus limit of four(4) extra brook trout in the Uinta's (check with proc) and I highly recommend that if you go that you take some brookis home for the pan. I also recommend sunscreen and mosquito repellent. They weren't to bad but they will drive you nuts without deet.[unsure]
Well the weather was great[cool], the fishing was fun[], the boy kept me busy baiting hooks and dehooking fish[blush] and we had a great trout dinner when we got home![laugh]
This is a great place to bring kids, a bit of a drive but almost a sure thing for getting the kids into fish, and the views are hard to beat.
