Sparky and I went for my typical pm fishing in the Nr, fork in my tube. Was having pretty good fishing in the little cove I fish, about 15, when a big expensive boat with 2 adults (mom and dad?) and 7 kids putted in and thru out the anchor about 100ft from me. They then proceeded to jump in and swim thru out the bay. Well that killed it so I packed up and left.[mad] Used my standard quacmole reaper, weedless. Didn't catch anything over 13-14in.
Had a problem I usually don't have. Caught 3 nice ones in a row but each swallowed it all the way down into the stomach area. I hate that!!!!! I know none of em will survive and couldn't keep em because of the 15in law. In retrospect I should have cut my line and gave up my lure and hook. Sometimes I'm too cheap!!![unimpressed] Maybe the tigers will get em.
2 more pet peeves? Sparky had a good time though,[Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]Too bad about the inconsiderate boaters. Some folks just have no concept of finesse fishing. TubeBabe and I have had boats literally drop anchor right on top of one of us and then proceed to unload air mattresses, personal watercraft and noisy kids. Boaters often think that having a big and more expensive craft entitles them to take any part of the lake they want, without apology.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hey Leaky, as long as you use those little finesse baits, and small hooks, you are going to have fish that swallow them. That's one of the reasons why you want to use larger baits and larger hooks. It helps keep the little ones off and the big ones from getting hooked so deep. I know, there is more action with the small stuff sometimes. You just have to make a choice.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]And, yes, I would just cut the line and at least try to give the greedy little buggers a fighting chance.[/#0000ff]

Actually I was using a size 1, I think, no smaller than size 2, offset which is pretty big, to me. I doesn't matter though, I should have cut the line. Sill hoping the tigers will clean up my mistakes. Next time I'll do better.

[cool][#0000ff]Just for the record, I use smaller hooks too, especially with drop shot and finesse baits. It is rare that the fish totally swallow them. But, in Pineview, with all of the competition from the exploding smallmouth population, they gulp first and ask questions later.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If there was some mortality, I don't think you have to worry about wiping out the smallie population in Pineview. I think there needs to be a lot more harvest and that the regs are wacko.[/#0000ff]
