Just another day:

I was kicking back with a cool one, reading forum posts and had a thought. I know, dangerous but------, well--------, I took to reflecting and realized there're certain folks that just know how to post interesting. They also get lot's of comments/replies. Now I'm not at all glib and am probably boring with my posts but, well-------, Sparky and I really love this sport, so I thought I'd try to tell a typical story of why I love it. Not sure why I'm doing this but, maybe you all might bond with me. This is just a typical day, with no extreme happenings, which I've had many.

Ok, Its 6 am and past time when I was going to get up but Sparky is licking me in the face and when I groan he gets up on me and starts pawing and licking. We had planned to go to Lake_ early and well, it's getting tough for me know. Of course the wife is sound asleep. I get up, go downstairs, let Sparky out to fetch the papers (he loves this), through the ball a few times up the steps (he loves this too), make my morning strong coffee, take my pills, getting very numerous, feed Sparky, kick back and read the paper. Well now it's mid morning, oh well, I just take my time anymore and well it still works out. We finally get in the truck, my wife has gotten up and insists I take the cell phone, and we head out. We get there about 11 am., haul my tube, fins, and lures out, change into my water clothes, put the tube over my shoulder and head down the trail. We walk about 1/2 hr, launch at the head of "our bay" and take off. Well Sparky is a happy, happy guy and he is excited to be right with me, swimming around me and being a typical loving pest. We can't wait to get to our "area" and we start fishing right away, using light line and slow, slow finesse. Well we putz along with Sparky swimming around me being a pest and, what---- I've got a hit! My he__, it feels like a giant! I finally get him to the tube and my he--, he's all of 10 in.! God those smallies fight great. Gee,------, what the heck, may as well spend some time hear! Well, we spend about the next 1 1/2 hrs. catching those wonderful smallies, some even reaching 12 in., maybe 1/2 dozen? Gosh, I wonder what the less advantaged folks are doing? Now I'm feeling guilty again, always do! Doesn't stop me so I keep going. Time goes by, Sparky has moved to shore and is taking a break. Luckily there is no shore fishermen to visit and make another "friend". Yep, I'm still pissed! I cast toward a little cut in the weeds and let it drop and start very slowly bringing it along the bottom and over weeds and I get about 5 ft. and the line gets heavy, Snag or fish? If I set the hook the snag will be permanent, if a fish he may spit it out. With slow pressure, I raise my rod and the line is moving away, da------! I set the hook and wow, have I got a Tiger? You can guess what else is happening. Sparky is on his way out to "visit". I'm yelling, no, not now, go away, well that just encourages him. I'm in a death struggle with this guy and Sparky is right there trying to help catch him. I'm sure the line or lure is going to get hung up in Sparky's fur or legs and I'm going to lose him!!! We struggle for a few minutes (seems a lot longer) trying to keep him out of the weeds and away from Sparky and I'm finally able to get him to the tube on on the surface. Now he starts jumping! How many fish have you lost at this point? I shove the rod tip down and keep a tight line. Finally, I get him to the tube, maneuver him so I can get my finger in and lift him in. Wow, what a beautiful fish, measures 16 in!!! (I've caught a lot larger, but those are other stories and this is supposed to be typical) I'll tell you what though, 16 in. is a beautiful, great fish, particularly after working for several hours. Well we admire him a little and say goodbye. We go back at it and do much the same thing for a while, cathing 3-4 more but I think to myself, your day has been good let's give em a rest, so we head back to shore, walk the trail back and just am pleased as heck to be alive. Of course, I've had to through sticks in the lake and on the way back because Sparky needs his play time and attention. I love that dog!!!!

Well, I guess I wont' bore you with the return details, I call my wife to tell her I'm still alive and on my way.

I get home and the wife asks, "how was fishing"? I say great, pour a cool one and reminisce.

That's it folks - my heaven:

All good stuff Leaky.. One question though, what ta heck is a cell phone? Perhaps its one of that darn thing that just kept jumping out of my pocket many moons ago while I was standing on the top of tall buildings, (perhaps a little to close to the edge)[Wink]

[#505000]For Sparky to fish legally without a license does he need to be under 14 in human years or dog years, I can't find it in the proclamation??? [Tongue][/#505000]

Nice post Fred, keep them coming. I have always wondered how you do so well with Sparky swimming around you. Now I know, it sounds like it is tough at times but nice to have him there too. WH2
