It looks as though I have figured out a decent way to rig my rod holders and transducer so that it's all easy to hook up and is stable and stays in place nicely for me.

I tried it out this morning at Lincoln Beach. See my Utah Fishing Report here.

Here is a pic of the whole setup (sorry I didn't realize when I took it that the photo was a bit blurry).

Here is the transducer mount tube complete with bungee cord to hold it in place.

Here are the two bungee cords hooked to D-rings on the underside of the tube to hold the two-rod holder securely in place so it doesn't tip over and dump my rods in the lake. The upper part is secured by sliding the tubes down into small rings of cord like TubeDude has done on some of his.

Thanks TubeDude for all the advice and info in getting all this set up and working properly. I may decide to do a hard apron like yours sometime this fall or next year. That wimpy spray skirt really sucks.

[#0000ff]I think you will like the rigid apron. Great for tackle tinkerin' and it definitely cuts down on the spine punctures in your "lap" while handling fishies. By the way, I am only attaching the front part to the D rings, with stretch cord and open hooks. The back part settles nicely without needing to be fastened. Much easier to put it on and take it off.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I am attaching a pic of the new ruler I put on our aprons. They come with sticky back, but I had to use rod builders' epoxy to get them to bond well. I got them at Sportsmans for $3.49. They are bass rulers, up to 36", but I cut them off at 18 1/2" to fit the apron. They also have estimated weight charts, which I didn't save on the apron. Heck, I already know that a 15" fish weighs at least 10 pounds.[/#0000ff]

Nice! [cool] I measured my apron with a tape measure and found it to be very close, but at 18" it was stretched a bit. What the apron said was 18" was really 17 1/2". That's a great idea bonding the measuring tape to the apron. I bring a mini 5 foot tape measure and keep it in a pocket on my fly vest. It would be much easier to measure on the tray in front, but I think I would still bring the tape measure as a back up since it's so small and could be used to vertically measure a hanging fish as well. I think I would like to try and find a clear lid for my tray. It would be easier to see small hooks/sinkers/etc on it and to see if it's clean when rinsing it.
