Yesterday we went up to the Henry's Fork basin for a day hike in a group of 4 and had the best fishing trip I could imagine. We fished the creek below Elkhorn Crossing with flies and spinners from about 3:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. We caught almost 200 fish between the four of us. Two of us used small dry flies and I and my brother used spinners. I never thought spinners would work so well in a small stream. With one of us on either side of the creek, we were able to get each other's snags undone. We fished all day and didn't lose one spinner. By the end of the day the paint on my panther martin was all chipped off. Most of the fish were about 7 to 9 inches long, but it was a blast. I can honestly say I have never had more fun fishing in my life. On of the people in our group lives in Virginia, and it was his first experience fly fishing. He caught as many fish as we did, and is now hooked on fly fishing. Unfortunately he got pretty bad altitude sickness on the way down. Anyways, the weather was great, the bugs didn't bother, and the fishing was on fire. It is definately a good time of year to head up there.
How fun was that!!! Thanks for the report.Always good to here someone getting hooked on fly fishing.
