I am taking my nine year old son to Henry's Lake over labor day weekend. He has never been and I haven't been for several years. I am anxious that he have a great experience. I have been told that the stump hole and duck's creek are good areas to fish shallow this time of year. We will be in a boat but are not set up to troll very well. I have a 90 horsepower outboard but no kicker motor. Any ideas of where or how to fish (flies, lures, colors, etc.) would be very helpful.
Thanks!

I haven't been to Henry's Lake for a couple months so I couldn't give you any recent first hand info. Weeds are going to be a problem but fishing should be improving over the next few weeks. If your aren't having much luck at Henry's you could also try Island Park Res, Hebgen or some of the Montana Lake that are just west of Henry's. I have some reports from Henry's earlier this year that will tell you what I was using.

Right now Henrys Lake is in a transition stage. The water temperature has been bouncing around which usually welds the fish's mouths shut. The lake will not be consistent until the water temp stablizes. I would predict that the second or third week of September will be the start of the good fall fishing. Labor Day weekend is traditionally slow. October should be outstanding. This summer was outstanding for big fish and also numbers.

Bill,
You were right. The fishing was enjoyable although a little slow. In 1 1/2 days fishing my boy and I only caught 8 fish. However, my nine year old did catch a beautiful 22" hybrid that I estimated to be close to 6 lbs. He was grinning the rest of the trip. What a great memory for both of us.
Hopefully we can get some late fall fishing in.
Thanks.

I will be guiding on Henrys tomorrow (Saturday) and I understand the fishing is very slow right now. But the temperature of the water has stablized at 53 for the last four days, this could cause the fish to be a little more active. I understand that there are some fish around the Hatchry and around the County Boat Dock. Last week there was a 14 pounder and a 12 pounder caught at Henrys. I will give you a report on Monday after the guide trip.
