well, i can say the weekend fishing wasn't all that hot from the shore, but i did have a great weekend.
Went to Bountiful sat morning to catch a carp or catfish using a new doughball recipe i was trying out. I did catch a catfish on it at willard last weekend...but didn't get any willing participants at Bountiful. After about an hour of soaking my dead shiner and doughballs, some very fine older gentleman sat near me and offered to share a bit of his doughball. so i gave it a try and ended up catching 3 carp in the next 90 minutes. First a 4 lber, then a 32 inch 18 lber (MAN, that was a blast!) and finally an 8 lber. Those carp really do fight well.
So i headed up to Willard sat evening to use my fresh carp meat, red-sided shiners, worms, etc. When i got up there, the waves were pretty awesome, 2-4 feet...i just watched them crash along the dike for a while and my boxer ran down the dike and jumped in, swimming around having a grand ole time. I tried to chuck a couple lures/jigs into the mudline hoping for a walleye, but it was some tough fishing with the waves and the W at the same time. The W finally died down just at sunset so i got set-up with some bait, fished for about 30 minutes and then a small thunderstorm that was lightning like crazy, started coming across the lake...so i left, not wanting to become another lightning strike statistic.[shocked]
I also went back monday morning with the same baits. Thinking that the afternoon storms were not fun to deal with, so i would try the calmer morning action. NOTHING! [unsure] i only had a couple nibbles on the carp meat and one hard hit on a shiner, but didn't hookup with anything. I finally started throwing every kind of lure i've caught walleye, catfish, crappie and carp with and managed to catch 2 smallmouth bass Was kinda surprised to see them.
After reading the other willard posts, i guess that makes sense that i wasn't able to catch any cats or walleye, with the fish getting gorged on the shad right now.
my dog had a great time as well. Whenever one of the waterskiers would crash in front of us, she always jumps in and starts swimming toward the boat. Heck, maybe she's tired of me! [shocked]
